    Hi Ms Lockyer,
Whilst I was researching, I discovered that the suburb Samson, in The City Of Fremantle, was named after an early settle by the name of Lionel Samson, who came to the area in 1829, and established ‘Lionel Samson and Sons’, which is still in business today. His family have been prominent in Fremantle. IE: One of his descendants, Sir William Frederick Samson, was a notable mayor of Fremantle Council Area, for more than 20 years.
FACT: Before development, the site was owned by the army, and being
Melville Military Camp in World War II.

Yet another suburb that has links to 1829 is Gosnells. The freshwater of the Canning River caught the eyes of many early settlers. Development dates back to 1829, and John Okey Davis arrived on the ship ‘Lotus’, and sold his land to Charles Gosnell, in 1862, where the name originates.

Hazelmere was established in 1829. It was named after another suburb in Guilford, Surrey (England) that was called Haslemere. No-one knows the reason for a change in spelling from the original name. The land got bought by James Morrison in 1883. We have a few questions about Hazelmere. Who named the original 1st suburb? Also what was the reason for the difference in spelling? A final fact is that Hazelmere was divided into sub cultures.
